The Rewards of Searching for Godly Wisdom (Pr. 2)

Does not wisdom call out?     Does not understanding raise her voice? My mouth speaks what is true,     for my lips detest wickedness. All the words of my mouth are just;     none of them is crooked or perverse. To the discerning all of them are right;     they are upright to those who have found knowledge. Choose my instruction instead of silver,     knowledge rather than choice gold, for wisdom is more precious than rubies,     and nothing you desire can compare with her. “I,…

Attaining Wisdom and Understanding (Pr 1:1-7)

Where then does wisdom come from?  Where does understanding dwell?  It is hidden from the eyes of every living thing, concealed even from the birds in the sky.  Destruction and Death say, “Only a rumor of it has reached our ears.”  God understands the way to it and he alone knows where it dwells, for he views the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens.  And he said to the human race, “The fear of the Lord—that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding.” Job 28:20-24,28

On the Basis of Love (Phm 1:8-25)

Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble.  Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult.  On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.  For, “Whoever would love life     and see good days must keep their tongue from evil     and their lips from deceitful speech. They must turn from evil and do good;     they must seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the Lord are…

Intro to Philemon (Phm 1:1)

But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.  Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness. James 3:17-18

A Servant’s Heart (Col 4:7-18)

For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all…

The Language of the Heart (Col 4:2-6)

Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.   Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.   These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.  Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.   Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind…

Family Life God’s Way (Col 3:18-4:1)

Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord.  For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.  Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.   Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water…

The Authority of Peace (Col 3:15-17)

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!  All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.  We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you…
